  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Hyposecretory effect of ipratropium bromide, an anticholinergic substance, on nasal discharge was studied in dogs and human, and, on the basis of its clinical effect on perennial nasal hypersensi-tivity, factors affecting its usefulness were also studied. The conclusions were as follows:

1. The drug exerts its suppressive effect dose-dependently on nasal secretion due to stimulation of the Vidian nerve in dog.

2. Intra-nasal administration of ipratropium bromide results in a significant suppression of methacholinc-induced nasal hypersecretion in human.

3. The response of methacoline induction is significantly higher in cases with clinical effect than in cases refractory to ipratropium bromide.
