Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis(ADEM)is a rare, monophasic, immune-mediated disorder that produces multifocal demyelinating lesions within the central nervous system. We reported a 7-year-old boy with ADEM. Serial studies of auditory brainstem response(ABR)were obtained in this child. Initially, there was lengthening of the wave Ⅰ-Ⅴ interpeak interval and subsequent components(Ⅱ through Ⅳ)were absent on the left, whereas conventional pure tone audiometry was normal. Eventually, ABR returned to normal after 10 months. Our experience indicated that the ABR is useful in the assessment and follow-up of demyelinating diseases such as ADEM.
