  • Look Inside

Vitreous surgery was performed on 15 eyes of idiopathic epiretinal membrane. We evaluated the correla-tion between findings by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and postoperative visual acuity. Twelve eyes also re-ceived phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation. The other 3 eyes were pseudophakic at the time of sur-gery. There was a significant correlation between the preoperative foveal thickness and logrithmic value of visual acu-ity 6 months after surgery (r=-0.53, p=0.04). Fluorescein angiography showed dye leakage in the macular area in 6 eyes and no leakage in 7 eyes. The postoperative logarithmic value of visual acuity was significantly poor in the for-mer 6 eyes than in the latter 7 eyes (p= 0.03). The postoperative foveal thickness was significantly greater in the for-mer than in the latter (p=0.01).
