  • Look Inside

We reviewed the long-term outcome of 16 eyes following pars plana vitrectomy for uveitis. The series comprised sarcoidosis 9 eyes, acute retinal necrosis 3 eyes, Behçet's disease 1 eye, toxocariasis 1 eye and unclassifieduveitis 2 eyes. Three eyes were pseudophakic at the time of surgery. Lens extraction was simultaneously performed in12 of the remaining 13 eyes. The postoperative follow-up ranged from 6 months to 9 years, average 37 months. At 6months after surgery, visual acuity improved by 2 lines or more in 13 eyes (81%). At the final evaluation, visual acuityimproved in 9 eyes (56%). Visual acuity deteriorated in 2 eyes of sarcoidosis due to proliferative lesions or prolongedinflammation. Because of complications following vitrectomy, we advocate lens extraction, complete removal of peripheralvitreous, and due management of intraocular inflammation.
