  • Look Inside

We reviewed four cases of ocular sarcoidosis with retinal or disc neovascularizations seen during the foregoing 3 years . We paid particular attention to retinal vascular occlusion, signs of posterior uveitis, location of neovascularizations, and response to treatments. We could classify the four cases into 3 types: retinal vascular occlusive type, inflammatory type, and mixed type. Photocoagulation was effective in inducing regression of neovascularizations in eyes of retinal vascular occlusive type. Eyes with pronounced inflammation in the posterior segment responded well to vitrectomy after systemic corticosteroid proved futile. The mixed type was succesfully treated with retinal photocoagulation and systemic corticosteroid. The present cases show that fundus neovascularizations in ocular sarcoidosis may develop secondary to retinal vascular occlusions or intraocular inflammation, either type necessitating specific treatment modalities.
