  • Look Inside

A 24-year-old male presented with sudden bilateral visual loss since 2 days before. The visual acuity was hand motion in either eye. Funduscopy showed sheathing of retinal vessels, retinal hemorhage and macular edema in both eyes. The findings were compatible with the diagnosis of frosted retinal angiitis. Fluorescein angiography showed widespread nonperfusion ares, dye leakage from retinal vessels and staining of vessel walls. Indocyanine green angiography showed reduced number of choroidal vessels and occlusion of choriocapillaris. Systemic acyclovir, prednisolone and aspirin failed to induce improvement in the retinal and choroidal circulation. Panretinal photocoagulation, performed on both eyes 4 weeks later, led to resolution of fundus lesions and slightly improved visual acuity to 0.04 right and 0.03 left. This case illustrates that frosted retinal angiilis may result in poor visual outcome. Fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography may serve as guides in assessing the prognosis in this disease entity.
