Purpose : To identify error factors in quatitating secondary cataract by retroillumination in pseudophakic eyes.

Cases and Method : Five eyes were studied 1 month to 8 years after cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation. Posterior capsular opacification was photographed using an anterior ocular analysis system (EAS-1000, NIDEK) . The Images were analyzed by the density threshold method for the binary image and by the high-pass filter processing.

Results : Binary image processing failed to distinguish posterior capsular opacity from other opacities, or noises. The photographed images showed wide fluctuations due to slight differences in focusing.

Conclusion : Photographed retroillumination need due elimination of noises aided by slit-lamp microscopic findings before binary image processing.
