  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We reviewed the history of blunt injury to the eye of patients with advanced atopic cataract by questionnaire. All of the patients had a history of tapping or rubbing their eyelids. Approximately 60% of them answered that they tapped their eyes although they recognized that they should not do so. 64% of the patients had a history of tapping their eyes as an involuntary action although they did not feel very itchy. Almost half of the patients had a history of tapping their eyes unconsciously because of psychological or social stress. It is suggested that avoiding the mechanical damage to the eyes with atopic dermatitis is critical for not only prevention of cataract formation but management of their postcataract surgery.
