  • Look Inside

We performed cataract surgery on 9 eyes which had received excimer laser phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) by Mel 60 or UV-200LA. The series comprised granular corneal dystrophy 4 eyes, band keratopathy 3 eyes and syphilitic interstitial keratitis 2 eyes. The corneal topography had stabilized 3 months after PTK with a hypertropic shift by 2.5 ± 2.0 D. Cataract surgery was uneventful except one eye which developed rupture of the posterior capsule. Corrected visual acuity of 0.5 or greater was obtained in 8 eyes (89%). There was a mean decrease of corneal endothelial cells by 5.65 ± 2.04%. The findings show that cataract surgery is to be performed 3 months after PTK for accurate intraocular lens calculations.
