There is a drawback in current formulas in calculating the intraocular lens (IOL) , as they ignore the changes of IOL design of different powers. I tried to calculate the postoperative refraction by using a ray tracing method and by estimating the ultimate anterior chamber depth from the positions of anterior and posterior lens capsules. This method was applied to 559 eyes implanted with either of five different IOLs. The findings were compared with the SRK/T formula. Both methods gave similar results with sole exception that the ray tracing method was significantly superior in eyes with the axial length of 27 mm or longer.
