  • Look Inside

We observed 3 eyes which developed visual field defect after successful vitrectomy for retinal detachment. All the eyes showed narrowing of retinal arterioles in the nasal hemisphere. Fluorescein angiography showed impaired chorioretinal circulation and retinal degeneration with multiple white dots in 2 eyes. One eye showed choroidal triangle syndrome. These 3 eyes were a part of a series of 34 eyes which were similarly treated. Visual field defect was detected in 7 of the 34 eyes (21%). Besides the above 3 eyes, nerve fiber layer defects developed in 2 eyes due probably to chorioretinal circulatory disturbance. The other 2 eyes showed no fundus lesions. These cases illustrate that chorioretinal circulatory disturbance may be involved in visual field defect following vitrectomy for retinal detachment.
