  • Look Inside

We reviewed 150 phakic eyes treated by vitrectomy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Rubeosis iridis was absent prior to surgery. Following surgery, rubeosis iridis developed in 13 eyes with neovascular glaucoma in 5 eyes and without in 8. Presence of retinal detachment before or after surgery was significantly responsible for postoperative rubeosis iridis (p<0.01). Rubeosis was more frequent after use of gas tamponade (p<0.05) and silicone oil (p<0.01). Rubeosis iridis became manifest within 6 months of surgery. Due attention in advocated regarding postoperative rubeosis iridis in high-risk cases.
