Cryotherapy in Mooren's ulcer

　保存療法無効の片眼性Mooren潰瘍4例が，冷凍療法のみで治癒した。点眼麻酔後，白内障摘出用の冷凍チップで−40℃，各点10ないし15秒，潰瘍全域を凝固する。効果は1〜2週間で現われたが，種々の期間を経て再発することもあった。4眼中2眼は1回で完治したが，他は再発のため2回，3回の冷凍凝固を要した。その後11か月から4年半，再発をみない。

　本法は手技容易，疼痛軽徴であり，入院不要，効果は迅速確実，繰り返しても副作用や後遺症がない。片眼性Mooren潰瘍治療の第1選択として，広く推奨する。

We successfully treated 4 cases of unilateral Mooren's ulcer by cryoapplication. All the eyes failed to respond to prior conventional medical treatments. The ulcerated area was cauterized by a cryoprobe at-40℃ for 10 to 15 seconds. After cryoapplication, the ulcers became epithelialized in 1 to 2 weeks.Two eyes in the series healed after onesession of cryotherapy, while other 2 eyes required additional treatments. Recurrences were common but were treated by the same procedure. This procedure is easy to perform, induces rapid benefi-cial effect without complications and is repeatable. We recommend cryotherapy as the treatment of choice for unilateral Mooren's ulcer.
