  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

In a survey of 243 cases of Behçet's disease with ocular involvement during the foregoing 14 years, we identified 7 cases, 10 eyes, with neovasculariza-tion from the optic disc. All the 7 cases were males. The ages ranged from 22 to 41, average 32 years. We followed up the cases for periods ranging from 4 months to 11 years, average 4 years. The visual acuity was generally favorable: 6 of the 10 eyes maintained visual acuity of 0.6 at the final visit. Fluorescein angiography in 6 eyes showed diffuse extravasation and no manifest capillary nonper-fusion. The findings suggested that optic disc neovascularization was probably induced by ocular inflammation and not secondary to capillary clo-sure. Antiinflammatory therapy seemed to be the preferred mode of treatment in these patients.
