Abstract Purpose:We report a case of corneal perforation caused by a lure fishing hook, resulting in damage to the root of the iris.

Case and Findings:A 49-year-old man presented with a perforation of the left eye caused by a lure fishing hook. At initial examination, his left best corrected visual acuity was hand motion. The tip of the hook had perforated the cornea and reached the root of the iris. The fishhook was removed by the cut-out technique under the microscope in the clinic. The corneal suture was then placed, followed by intracameral irrigation with buffered saline solution containing antibiotics in the operating room. Postoperatively, no traumatic cataract or other serious ocular complications were observed, and 6 months postoperatively, his left visual acuity improved to 1.5.

Conclusions:Appropriate and prompt extraction is vital for eye injuries caused by fishing hooks. This patient recovered well owing to the prompt removal of the hook and two-stage surgical treatment.
