Abstract Purpose:To report four cases of congenital fibrosis of extraocular muscles(CFEOM)who underwent strabismus surgery at our hospital.

Cases and Method:In this retrospective study, we examined the family history, the course of visual acuity, the timing of surgery, the surgical technique, the eye position, the abnormal head position, and the course of binocular visual function in four cases of CFEOM that underwent strabismus surgery at our hospital.

Results:Preoperative abnormal head position, jaw-lift and lower fixation of the eyeball were observed in all 4 cases;however, all improved after surgery. No improvement was observed in binocular visual function. In case 1, ptosis was mild both pre and postoperatively, and the patient was treated conservatively, while cases 2-4 were treated with ptosis surgery for congenital ptosis at the request of the family. In case 2, esotropia improved after both recession of inferior rectus muscles, while in case 3, esotropia of 45Δ over remained and both esotropia.

Conculusion:The transition of horizontal eye position depended on the preoperative eye position. Abnormal head position, jaw-lift, and lower fixation of the eyeball, improved in all cases. No improvement was observed in binocular visual function.
