Abstract Purpose:The LiGHT study reported that selective laser trabeculoplasty(SLT)is effective as the first choice for treating glaucoma and ocular hypertension. SLT has been attracting attention in recent years. However, we experience ineffective cases after SLT. In order to clarify the factors influencing the decrease in intraocular pressure of SLT, we classified patients with no history of eye surgery other than cataract surgery into the SLT effective and ineffective group and compared them.

Cases and method:This study included 169 eyes of 132 patients who had no history of eye surgery other than cataract surgery and could be followed up for more than 1 month. For the patients who underwent surgery in both eyes, we selected eyes with an earlier treatment date. The cases with postoperative intraocular pressure of 18 mmHg or less and decreased 10% or more were classified into the effective group, and the others were classified into the ineffective group. We compared the case background factors between the two groups. Logistic regression analysis was performed by selecting age, glaucoma type(POAG/PEG/others), phakic eye/pseudophakic eye, preoperative number of eye drops, and preoperative intraocular pressure as case background factors.

Result:Out of 64 eyes, age 71.7±14.9 years, glaucoma type POAG 31 eyes/PEG 28 eyes/other 5 eyes, phakic eye 29 eyes/pseudophakic eye 35 eyes, preoperative number of eye drops 4.4±1.1, preoperative intraocular pressure 23.9±7.8 mmHg. After SLT, 44 eyes were found in the effective group and 20 eyes were found in the ineffective group. A logistic regression analysis was performed in the case background between the two groups, and it was found that the phakic eye/pseudophakic eye(p=0.008)was a significant factor, and the odds ratio was 8.37(95% confidence interval 1.70-58.56).

Conclusion:Phakic eye is speculated to be a significant factor in the decrease in intraocular pressure due to SLT in patients with no history of eye surgery other than cataract surgery.
