Abstract Purpose:To compare the results of suture trabeculotomy ab interno(s-lot)between total incision and half incision.

Methods:This retrospective study included 151 eyes of 112 cases that underwent total incision of s-lot, and 130 eyes of 105 cases of half incision. The intraocular pressure(IOP), cumulative survival rate, number of glaucoma medications and complication were examined in this study. Surgery was judged as success when IOP was maintained between 5 and 15 mmHg and when≧20% IOL reduction was achieved.

Results:The cumulative survival rate at 12 months after surgery was 83.5% in the total incision group and 66.5% in the half incision group. It was significantly higher in the total incision group. The mean IOP at 12 months after surgery was 11.7±2.6 mmHg in the total incision group and 12.9±2.3 mmHg in the half incision group. It was significantly lower in the total incision group. The number of glaucoma medications at 12 months after surgery was 2.4±1.3 in the total incision group and 2.0±1.5 in the half incision group. However there was no significant difference. Postoperative hyphema occurred in 62.9% of the cases in the total incision group and in 39.5% of the cases in the half incision group. Transient IOP increase occurred in 28.5% of the cases in the total incision group and in 29.2% of the cases in the half incision group. There was no significant difference.

Conclusion:The total incision of s-lot was regarded as a more effective procedure than the half incision of s-lot, but complications occurred more frequently in the total incision of s-lot.
