Abstract Purpose:To report a case of unilateral burn of the cornea caused by a hair iron.

Case:A 20-year-old woman presented with visual impairment and right eye pain following the use of a hair iron. She was diagnosed with burn of the cornea and skin around the right eye at previous eye clinic. She was referred to the department of dermatology and ophthalmology in our hospital. At presentation, the best-corrected visual acuity was 0.1 in the right eye and 1.0 in the left eye. The diagnosis was corneal burn. She received treatment with betamethasone sodium phosphate and 1% atropine sulfate hydrate eye solutions. Her corneal condition improved the next day and the corneal erosion had healed 4 days later. The best-corrected visual acuity improved to 1.2 in the right eye 15 days after the initial visit.

Conclusion:This patient's prognosis was very good because the corneal limbus was not damaged. Although cases of corneal burn and erosion caused by hair iron use is quite rare, we have to be careful about the possibility of such presentations.
