Abstract Purpose:To report a case of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment that developed fifteen years after acute retinal necrosis.

Case:A 27-year-old male presented with visual field defect since the same morning. He had developed acute retinal necrosis in the left eye at the age of 12 years. It had subsided after systemic treatment with antiviral agent and corticosteroid. Corrected visual acuity was 1.5 right and 0.6 left 3 years before.

Findings and Clinical Course:The left eye showed rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in the inferior quadrants. The retina was reattached following phacoemulsification-aspiration, pars plana vitrectomy, and silicone oil implantation. Silicone oil was removed with intraocular lens implantation 4 months later.

Conclusion:This case illustrates that rhegmatogenos retinal detachment may develop long after apparent cure of acute retinal necrosis.
