Abstract Purpose:To present a 5-year review of uveitis treated at Saga University Hospital.

Method:This study was made on clinical record of 323 new patients who were seen at Saga University Hospital during 5 years through March 2017.

Result:The 323 cases comprised 128 males and 195 females. The age ranged from 11 to 90 years, average 54.8±19.5 years. Age distribution showed a peak at 60 to 69 years and accounted for 25.7% of the whole series. Panuveitis was the most frequent at 43.3%, followed by anterior uveitis at 41.8%, posterior uveitis at 14.2% and intermediate uveitis at 0.6%. The most frequent clinical entity was Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease(8.4%), followed by sarcoidosis(7.4%), acute anterior uveitis(7.1%), herpetic uveitis(5.0%), scleritis(4.0%), and human T-lymphotropic virus type 1(HTLV-1)associated uveitis(3.7%). Behçet's disease(0.3%)was less frequent than in our previous report(3.0%)20 years before. Unclassiied uveitis accounted for 41.8% of the whole series.

Conclusion:Compared with our similar report 20 years before, incidence of Behçet disease decreased and herpetic iritis showed an increase. Acute anterior uveitis was a new entity in the present report. Incidence of HTLV-1 associated uveitis was higher than reported in 2009 epidemiological survey of uveitis in Japan. This difference appears to be due to geographic factors.
