Abstract. Purpose:To present a review of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment following LASIK. Cases and Method:The present study was made on 12 eyes of 12 cases who developed rhegmatogenous retinal detachment following LASIK during 5 years through 2013. The series comprised 9 males and 3 females. The age ranged from 31 to 55 years, average 44 years. The axial length ranged from 25.98 mm to 29.59 mm, average 27.72 mm. The interval between LASIK and retinal detachment ranged from 36 to 180 months, average 71 months. Findings:There was no difference in the shape and location of retinal break between the present series and cases of retinal detachment in general. The retina became reattached in 11 eyes(92%)after the first surgery and in all the eyes eventually. There was no complication related to corneal flap during LASIK. Changes in refraction averaged +0.16 diopters after scleral encircling, −1.75 diopters after vitreous surgery, and +0,375 diopters after vitreous and cataract surgery. Refraction differed from the Haigis-L formula averaged 0.51±0.57 diopters. Conclusion:Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment following LASIK showed features similar to rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in general.
