Abstract. Purpose:To report a 6-month outcome of intravitreal injection of ranibizumab for retinal vein occlusion with macular edema. Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 22 eyes of 22 cases with retinal vein occlusion. The series comprised 10 males and 12 females. The age ranged from 44 to 83 years, average 70 years. Central retinal vein occlusion was present in 5 eyes and branch retinal vein occlusion in 17 eyes. Cases were followed up for 6 months after ranibizumab injection. The treatment was repeated when needed. Visual acuity was evaluated in terms of logMAR. Results:Ranibizumab injection was repeated 2.4 times during 6 months. Visual acuity averaged 0.64±0.41 before treatment and 0.56±0.50 after 6 months. Central foveal thickness averaged 577.8±207.0μm before treatment, 459.0±144.6μm the following day, and 373.1±102.9μm after 6 months. The differences were significant. Conclusion:Intravitreal injection of ranibizumab was followed by decrease of macular edema on the following day and by short-term improvement of visual acuity.
