　Machemerらが発表した黄斑円孔による網膜剥離症例に対するvitrectomyとgas tamponadeによる手術療法の追試を行った。対象は21例21眼で，手術時他に裂孔の存在しない症例に限った。うち15例は手術の既往のない，単純な網膜剥離眼で，本術式のみにて13例87％が復位した。最終的には21例全例復位したが，3眼については円孔のジアテルミー凝固やbucklingを要した。結局21例中16例（76％）が本術式のみにて復位し，黄斑円孔に光凝固を追加したが，bucklingを行わず復位した症例を含めれば85％が本術式が効を奏して復位した事になる。また，後極部限局性稲平剥離の症例は本術式では再発しやすく，広範囲胞状剥離の症例に特に本術式が有効であった。

Twenty one cases of retinal detachment caused by macular hole were treated by vitrectomy, partial gas-fluid exchange and prone position, as reported by R. Machemer.

Sixteen cases (76%) were treated successfully by this method alone. Phtocoagulation was added in two cases in reoperation with the same method. Buckling to the macular hole was necessary in three cases to attain final reattachment.

No complication was observed in this method. Success rate with this method was higher in cases with widespread detachment than in cases with detachment localized to the posterior pole.
