A 52-year-old housewife suffering from rheu-matoid arthritis for the past 6 years complained of blurred vision in both eyes after cessation ofsystemic steroid therapy. There were no abnor-mal findings in the anterior segment of the eyes. Ophthalmoscopical examination revealed slight disc pallor, prepapillar neovascular net, exudates in macular area, superficial retinal haemorrhages, arterial narrowing and obstruc-tion, venous dilatation and tortousity. These retinal changes were interpreted as due to angitis in retinal vessels peculiar to rheumatoid arthritis on following reasons:
