We developed a new corneal electrode for elec-troretinogram (ERG) using a soft contact lens with high water content. The retinal potentials are trans-mitted from the lens by carbonic fibers which are coated with non-metallic insulating material. The electrode can be worn without local anesthesia and does not interfere with the visual acuity. The electrophysiological examinations can be conducted over a prolonged duration without inducing drying of the cornea. One electrode serves for ERG, flash-ERG and pattern-ERG in an uninterrupted ses-sion.
