緒言

　角膜の病気の中には，円錐角膜のように角膜は透明だが形が悪いために視力が出ないというものがある。

　今のところ，円錐角膜の治療は角膜移植以外はないとされているが，もし角膜の形をうまく変えることができれば，なにも角膜移植をする必要はない訳である。

Direct application of a heated probe on the cornea of enucleated human, rabbit or pig eye resulted in the instant contracture of the treated area. The cornea could thus be made flatter when either the corneal apex alone or the whole corneal surface was treated. A steeper cornea was the result when the limbal area was heat-ed. The optimal temperature for the expected result ranged between 90° and 150℃ and the duration of the heat application was less than one second.
