1. One hundred and twenty seven patients with established diagnosis of SMON (SubacuteMyelo-Optico-Neuropathy) from Okayama-ken have been examined opthalmologically. Thirty two cases had ocular manifestation such as bi-lateral visual disturbance in all cases. Findings of the fundus in these cases were as follows: Twenty two cases manifested simple atrophy of the optic nerve, eight cases temporal pallor of the disc, and two cases neuritis optica.

2. The optic nerves of three patients clinically diagnoed as SMON were examined pathohisto-logically. The results obtained were as follows:
