Reconstruction of Mach Band by Visual Spread Functions

まえがき

　視覚に関する知覚心理特性（視力，輝度弁別能力，対比効果など）を単一概念で一義的に取り扱うにはレスポンス関数またはその逆フーリエ変換である広がり関数が便利である。Mach現象と呼ばれる輪郭線知覚強調効果について，われわれはすでに報告した^1）。Mach効果はlateral inhibi—tion回路^2）と呼ばれている横方向に相互に抑制し合う視神経線維によつて生じ，Bék^3）は単一インパルスに対する応答（広がり関数）を"neuralunit"と呼んだ。

　Patel^4）は視覚系の広がり関数を眼球光学系によるものと視神経系によるものとに分離して示した（Fig．1）。眼球光学系でぼけた網膜像を神経系のlateral inhibition作用で修正している様子がよくわかる。

The visual process has been expressed in terms of response function or, conversely, spread function. In an earlier work of the author (Jap. J. Clin. Ophth. 20 : 1141, 1966), Mach pheno-menon was described as responsible for facilita-tion of optical recognition of contours. An atte mpt was made to reconstruction the Mach phenomenon through computerized simulation.
