Analysis of 139 patients with disturbance of vision following head contusion due to traffic accident revealed :
1. Fracture of optic canal accounts for 84% of diminution of visual acuity following blunt trauma to the head. This condition must be suspected whenever, at the first examination of patients involved in traffic accident, there exists contusion wound at the upper temporal edge of the orbit accompanied by impaired vision, absent or impaired light reflex and nasal bleeding. For exact diagnosis of frac-ture of the optic canal, stereo-x-ray examina-tion is essential.
