The Ophthalmological Morbidity of An Isolated Population

I．緒言

　眼は精密な感覚器官であり，かつ，精密な検査も眼が体表に存することから容易であるために，異常形質が比較的簡単に発見され得る。

　このような特性は，人類遺伝学的研究においても極めて有利なことであつて，人類集団に含まれる先天異常または遺伝性疾患を見出し易いゆえ，それらの頻度，あるいは現われ方等から様々な知見を得ることが出来る。

This paper describes the eye findings of an isolate population for which human genetic survey was jointly performed with special re-ference to consanguinity by Prof. Neel and Schull, Michigan University.

The frequency of inbreeding in this island is about 20%, and about 10% of the parents are the offsprings of consanguinous marriage, and about 40% of the whole population is rela-ted in some way to consanguineous marriages.
