糠尿病性網膜症に対するSorbitol療法について（予報）

　Sarbitolが，糖尿病患者に対し血糖上昇作用殆んどなく甘味料として用いられていることはいうまでもないが，Fructoseと共にAntiketogenicagentとして，肝臓での新陳代謝をよくし，li—poidの合成を正常化し，Acetyl Co AやA．T．P．の利用率を高めることなど多くの報告がある。ことに糖尿食において，糖質制限が却つて悪影響を及ぼし，他方Insulinや径口糖尿治療剤の副作用が問題にされている折柄Insulinの関与することの少い六炭糖の利用は当然試みられるべきことと思う。

　糖尿病の生命の予後がよくなると共に血管合併症殊に糖尿病性網膜症の年次増加が問題になつているが，以上の観点から，初めて糖尿病性網膜症に対し系統的なFructose投与を試み，良好な成績を得たのはJ．Otto^2）氏である。

Investigations were undertaken to ascertain the availability of sorbitol in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy. 8 diabetic patients consisting of 3 males and 5 females from ages of between 31 and 67 served as objects of study. 2 eyes showed 1st stage diabetic retinopathy, 2 eyes the 2nd stage, 2 eyes the 4th stage and 1 eye the 5th stage after Wagener's criteria. One eye was judged as normal.

Sorbitol was given as 70% aqueous solution perorally at a daily dosis of 50ml, 3 times between meals. The period of observation ranged from 58 to 86 days.
