  • Look Inside

In the operation of cataract extraction the trend of time indicates that more and more ophthalmic surgeons are resorting to intracapsular method rather than that of extra-capsu-lar. As a procedure the former is more complicated and require adroitness but its adapta-bility is larger in the field of application. By intra-capsular method the cataracts may be extracted in those that are immature, less than 0.5D., due to excessive heat or in cases of lens luxations. The operation may be performed under local anesthesia without undue diffi-culty ; the operation time is lengthened from 10 minutes for extra-capsular to 30 minutes which is required for intracapsular or total extraction but the necessity of making a capsu-lar incision for fear to recurrent cataract is obviated ; postoperative iritis and inflammation of the vitreous due to allergies caused by protein contents of the lens that may be left behind are not met with.
