Abstract. Purpose:To report the effect of psychological counseling to improve visual ability in functional visual disturbances. Material and Method:Thirty-two children with functional visual disturbance were included. Counseling was performed for subjects and their parents once a month. Each session lasted 30 minutes. Duration before improving his/her visual function was determined. Factors possibly affecting this condition were searched. Result:Seventy-two percent of subjects showed improvement. Mean durations from making diagnosis to finding functional improvement in visual acuity and in visual field were 9 months and 7 months respectively. Those from clinical psychological intervention to improvement were 4 months and 3 months respectively. Factors possibly affecting this condition included brothers and sisters relationship, and friendship in school conditions. Conclusion:Intervention from psycho-social perspective is supposed to contribute to shorten duration for improvement in visual function.
