Abstract. Purpose:To report a case of solitary retinal hemangioma who developed macular hole following photocoagulation. Case:A 40-year-old female presented with impaired vision in her left eye since 2 months before. Her grandmother and grand aunt had become blind for unknown reason. Findings:Both eyes showed solitary hemangioma in the temporal periphery. Both eyes were treated by photocoagulation. She noticed impaired vision in the left eye one year later. Corrected visual acuity was 1.5 right and 0.3 left. There was no change in the size of hemangioma in either eye. The left eye showed macular hole. She received vitreous surgery with removal of epiretinal and internal limiting membrane followed by intravitreal sulfer fluoride. Macular hole closed with visual acuity improving to 0.6 five months later. Conclusion:This case illustrates that macular hole with epiretinal membrane may develop in an eye with solitary retinal hemangioma treated by photocoagulation.
