Abstract. Purpose:To present a review of open-globe injury in Tokushima Prefecture. Cases:This review was made on 91 eyes of 90 cases who were surgically treated at Tokushima University Hospital or Tokushima Red Cross Hospital during 10 years through 2011. Results:The series comprised 55 males and 35 females. The age ranged from 3 to 99 years, average 62 years. There were 42 eyes(46%)of eyeglobe rupture and 49 eyes(54%)of eyeglobe perforation. Cases of perforation included penetrating trauma 29%, intraocular foreign body 23%, and double perforation 2%. The age averaged 48 years in cases of perforation and 77 years in those of eyeglobe rupture. The difference was significant(p<0.01). Falling down was the most frequent cause of eyeglobe rupture. Corrected visual acuity of 0.5 or over was obtained in 6 eyes that received vitreous surgery after eyeglobe rupture. Conclusion:Vitreous surgery may result in favorable visual outcome following eyeglobe rupture.
