Abstract. Background:Current method of flushing the anterior chamber by antimicrobial solution during cataract surgery requires a high dosis and fails to reach the space posterior to the intraocular lens(IOL). Purpose:To report a modified method of flushing the anterior chamber by 1/150×moxifloxacin(MFLX)solution during cataract surgery. Method:A flushing needle with slightly bent tip is inserted into the anterior chamber of porcine eye and is used to insert 1.1 ml of MFLX solution by lifting the edge of IOL. Concentration of MFLX is measured after this procedure. Dynamics of fluid flow is observed by adding triamcinolone. Results:This method facilitated flushing the anterior chamber and the space posterior to IOL. The concentration of MFLX averaged 33μg/ml after the procedure. Control of intraocular pressure was easy after surgery. Conclusion:The present method requires a low dosage of MFLX and allows a thorough flushing of anterior chamber and the space posterior to IOL.
