Abstract. Purpose:To report spontaneous separation of idiopathic epiretinal membrane in a 6-year-old child. Case:A girl was found to have impaired visual acuity at school at the age of 6 years 9 months. Her past and family history was inconspicuous. Findings:Corrected visual acuity was 1.2 right and 0.1 left. The left eye showed a fibrous membrane in the macular area. Optical coherence tomography(OCT)showed thickening in the outer nuclear layer in the area of the membrane. Laboratory studies, including syphilis and toxoplasmosis, gave negative results. The epiretinal membrane started to be spontaneously peeled off. OCT showed decreased retinal thickness. She was treated by correction of refraction and occlusion of the right eye. Her corrected visual acuity improved to 0.15 at the age of 8 years one month. Conclusion:To our best knowledge, the present case is the youngest in the reported cases of spontaneous separation of idiopathic epiretinal membrane.
