Abstract. Purpose: To report six eyes who showed macular hole following rupture of retinal arterial macroaneurysm. Cases:This retrospective study was made on 46 eyes that received vitreous surgery for macular hemorrhage secondary to ruptured retinal arterial macroaneurysm during past 43 months. Macular hole was detected in 6 eyes during surgery. Findings:All the 6 cases were females. The age ranged from 69 to 84 years, average 78 years. Interval from onset to surgery ranged from 8 to 120 days, average 37 days. All the eyes showed sub-internal limiting membrane(ILM)and subretinal hemorrhage. All the eyes received ILM peeling and gas tamponade. Additional surgery was performed on 3 eyes. Macular hole eventually closed in all the eyes. Final visual acuity improved in all the eyes and ranged from 0.04 to 0.3. Conclusion:These cases illustrates that macular hole may be present following rupture of retinal arterial macroaneurysm with subretinal or sub-ILM hemorrhage in the macula.
