Abstract. Purpose:To report successful removal of perfluorocarbon retained in the subfoveal space. Case:A 32-year-old male received vitreous surgery for retinal detachment in his right eye. The retina became reattached under silicone oil in the vitreous. Retinal detachment recurred and resulted in proliferative vitreoretinopathy. Reattachment was obtained after surgery with the use of liquid perfluorocarbon. A dome-shaped elevation was detected posterior to the fovea 26 days after surgery. Optical coherence tomography showed an empty subfoveal space. The visual acuity was 0.08. The finding was diagnosed with subretinal migration of perfluorocarbon. It was surgically removed through an intentional retinal break created temporal to the fovea 40 days after surgery. The fovea regained its depression with visual acuity improving to 0.2. Conclusion:Visual function improved after successful removal of liquid hydrocarbon through an intentional retinal break temporal to the fovea.
