Abstract. Purpose:To report outcome of surgery for retinal detachment using VISULUXTM adjunct to operating microscope. Cases and Method:This study was made on 45 eyes that received scleral buckling for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment during the past 2 years. Operating microscope with VISULUXTM was used in all the eyes. Findings were compared with another series of 34 eyes that received retinal detachment surgery under indirect ophthalmoscope. Results:Initial reattachment was obtained in 41 out of 45 eyes(91%)and 30 out of 34 eyes(88%)respectively. No significant difference was present between the two groups. Duration of surgery was similar in the two groups. Intraoperative visibility of the fundus was compatible with that of slit-lamp microscope. Conclusion:Use of VISULUXTM as the illuminating system in surgery for retinal detachment ensures good intraoperative visibility.
