Abstract. Purpose:To report a case of retinal detachment secondary to ocular perforation. Case and Findings:A 17-year-old girl was injured by a flying piece of glass in her right eye. When seen the following day, her visual acuity was 0.1 in the affected eye. The right eye showed a 2mm-long wound in the bulbar conjunctiva and total retinal detachment. A 20mm-long, L-shaped scleral wound was found and sutured, followed by endoscopy-assisted vitrectomy. Retinal break was closed by endophotocoagulation. Endoscopy was useful as transpupillary observation was not possible. Results:Visual acuity was 0.9 one year later and 1.2 3 years later. Cataract surgery was needed 4 years later. Latest visual acuity is 1.2 7 years after injury. Conclusion:In ocular perforation, the scleral wound may be far greater than the conjunctival one. Prompt treatment was essential in the present case.
