Purpose:To describe the design and the outcome of our new sleeve for polishing the posterior lens capsule during phacoemulsification-aspiration(PEA). Method:The sleeve is made of silicone and is shaped to wrap the irrigation-aspiration(I/A)tip. It has three holes instead of two in the conventional system. The third one is for aspiration and is located to match the opening of I/A tip. The redundant anterior portion of the tip can be used to polish the posterior lens capsule. This system was used for PEA through temporal corneal incision in 10 porcine and 20 human eyes. Results:The posterior lens capsule could be polished with good visibility, without applying aspiration, and with no instance of ruptured capsule. Conclusion:This sleeve enables polishing of posterior lens capsule with high degree of safety. It also helps in avoiding capsule rupture during I/A.
