Abstract. A 61-year-old male presented with untreated diabetes mellitus diagnosed 11 years ago. His corrected visual acuity was 0.9 right and 1.5 left. A dot hemorrhage was present in the right fundus. Funduscopic findings were otherwise normal. His HbAlclevel showed remarkable decrease following start of treatment with insulin. Both eyes developed blot hemorrhages and soft exudates 2 months later. The findings aggravated during the ensuing 6 weeks. He had been receiving prostaglandin E1for lesions in the spine. The retinopathy improved soon after its discontinuation. It appeared that aggravation of retinopathy was due to too abrupt control of diabetes mellitus and simultaneous use of prostaglandin E1.
