Abstract. Purpose:To study the correlation between the shape of optic nerve head and retinal nerve fiber layer defect(NFLD)in eyes with normal-tension glaucoma. Cases and Method:This study was made on 17 eyes with normal-tension glaucoma. The series comprised 11 eyes of 7 males and 6 eyes of 4 females. Their ages ranged from 39 to 73 years, average 57 years. All the eyes had NFLD by scanning laser ophthalmoscope. Shape of optic nerve head was analyzed by Heidelberg retina tomograph to calculate rim area, rim volume, and cup/disk area ratio as parameters. Results:There was no significant difference in the shape of optic nerve head between areas adjacent to NFLD and other areas. Conclusion:There is a possibility that morphological changes of retinal nerve fiber layer may precede those of optic nerve head in normal-tension glaucoma.
