Evaluation of a new low vision aid utilizing cellular phone with built-in camera

要約　目的：カメラを内蔵した携帯電話を基本にして開発した新型低視力補助装置（low vision aid：LVA）を，従来型の拡大読書機と比較評価すること。対象と方法：正常者，低視力者，色覚異常者のそれぞれ10名に新型と在来型のLVAの評価を依頼した。いずれも成人であり，低視力者は良好な眼の矯正視力が0.3以下であった。名刺の文字に赤を重ね視標として使用した。視標の見え方などを数値化して評価した。結果：3群ともに新型LVAは従来型LVAよりも満足度が高かった。色変換モードがある新型LVAは色覚異常群で好評であった。結論：携帯電話を利用する新型LVAは従来型LVAの問題点を補う機能を内蔵し，新規のソフトをダウンロードすることが可能である。

Abstract.　Purpose：To evaluate the newly developed low vision aid（LVA）utilizing cellular phone with built-in camera. Objects and Method：The new LVA was tested by 30 persons. They comprised 10 persons each with normal vision,low vision and color anomaly. Low vision persons had corrected visual acuity of 0.3 or less in better-seeing eye. Letters printed on a visiting card were used as test optotypes. Visibility of optotypes was numerically evaluated. Results：All the three groups gave higher grades of satisfaction regarding visibility with the new LVA than conventional reading aid. Color-anomalous persons gave positive remarks on color-conversion mode in the new LVA. Conclusion：The new LVA has solved several defects in conventional LVA. It is also possible to download new softwares through the cellular phone.
