Background:There have been many reports on the shortening effect of LIPUS on the fracture union period, but there have been occasional reports of cases of ineffectiveness in regard to the treatment of humeral and femoral fractures. Some of the cases of ineffectiveness are thought to be due to the targeted fragmented bone parts being farther from the surface of the skin, and therefore not properly irradiated by the ultrasound beam.

Method:To address this problem we devised a targeting device that makes it easy to aim the irradiation at a specific location by using plain radiography, and we assessed its usefulness.

Outcome:Targeting with the device we created made it easy to adjust the irradiated position, and it required little time and made it easy to visually confirm the irradiated position for the radiograph.

Conclusion:We therefore concluded that it is useful for LIPUS therapy, which requires accuracy in terms of the irradiated position and angle.
