Oral beraprost sodium improves the manifestations of arteriosclerosis obliterans, and in this study it was used to treat 66 patients with lumbar spinal canal stenosis. Back pain, leg pain, and associated QOL were evaluated by means of a Visual Analogue Scale, the JOA score, and the Japanese version of the Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire, and the distance walked before the onset of intermittent claudication was evaluated by questioning each patient periodically. The pain, QOL level, and the distance walked before the onset of intermittent claudication had all improved significantly by 12 weeks after the start of treatment. Beraprost sodium is an effective choice of conservative treatment for lumbar spinal canal stenosis.
