We reviewed the results of surgical treatment in 14 patients (14 feet;mean age of patients, 31 years) with acute or chronic dislocation of the peroneal tendons. The average follow-up was 23 months. The injury of the superior peroneal retinaculum was classified into three types according to operative findings. All patients were treated with anatomical repair of the superior peroneal retinaculum. At the final follow-up, the mean scores on the AOFAS scale and JOA score were 99 points and 99 points, respectively. Twelve feet had free from ankle pain. The remaining two feet had mild ankle pain during sports activities. There were no cases, which had postoperative limitation of the ankle motion or the recurrence of peroneal tendon dislocation. Our surgical procedure was effective method for acute and chronic peroneal tendon dislocation.
