われわれは,一般市民における腰部脊柱管狭窄症の認識度を知る目的で,70歳以上の住民に対して本症に関する意識調査を行った.対象者は,三重県の津と熊野,東京の3地区において,アンケートの回答が得られた70歳以上の一般市民561人であった.対象者の年齢は平均74.1歳(70~84),男性269人,女性292人で,地区別人数は津が267人,熊野が138人,東京が156人であった.そのアンケート調査の結果,腰部脊柱管狭窄症という言葉を聞いたことがあると回答した人は561人中34人(6.1%)であり,腰部脊柱管狭窄症の知名度は低く,一般市民に対する啓蒙が必要であると思われた.また,70歳以上の大多数は,外出が困難になれば診療を受け,100m以上の連続歩行ができなくなると手術を考慮することがわかった.
The number of patients with lumbar vertebral canal stenosis has increased, and it has recently become the most important lumbar disease. The purpose of this study was to conduct attitude survey regarding lumbar spinal canal stenosis among the general public. The subjects were 561 members of the general public aged 70 years or older (mean age:74.1 years) who voluntarily filled out the questionnaire. There were 269males and 292 females, and the numbers of subjects by district were:Tsu City, 267;Kumano City, 138;and Tokyo, 156. The results revealed that only 6.1% of the subjects lumbar spinal canal stenosis. Thus, it may be important to inform the general public about this disease. The results of this study also disclosed that the majority of subjects aged 70 years or older intend to consult a physician if they have difficulty going out, and to urdergo surgery if they become unable to walk without stopping ater 100 meters or less.
